Ipswich Film Theatre

Welcome to Ipswich Film Theatre’s web-site. Ipswich Film Theatre is a community-based two screen cinema to be found in the basement of the Ipswich Corn Exchange in King Street.

IFT specialises in independent and world cinema. It presents films for people who are looking for something different from the mainstream Hollywood/multiplex experience.

The cinemas are open 5 days a week – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday with films usually starting at 7.30pm. This venture is run by the Ipswich Film Theatre Trust, a not-for-profit organisation formed by film fans who didn’t feel their taste in cinema was being catered for elsewhere.

But, it is not just a vehicle for us. IFT is very much a community cinema. It is your cinema. We want you to feel involved. Use this web-site to talk to us. Tell us your likes and dislikes, your programming suggestions and we will do our level best to incorporate your suggestions.

Explore the web-site you’ll find programming details for the coming month and sometimes further, cast details, synopsis, reviews, trailers, blogs, interesting material to read. Let us know what you think.

IFT is run by a trust and staffed by volunteers. It will only work if East Anglia’s film fans take us to your hearts. We need you to turn out to see our wide range of films on the big screen. If you like what you see, don’t just tell your friends, bring them along, so they can enjoy that special IFT experience for themselves.

If we unwittingly slip up over something, then for goodness sake don’t mutter dark words to yourself. Tell us and we will do our best to rectify the situation as quickly as we can.

But, you don’t just have to be an audience member. We are staffed by volunteers and we need as many people as possible to help with a myriad of different tasks from ushering to brochure distribution. You can choose to do as much or as little as you want. If you want to volunteer you time then contact us at film@ift.com with the word ‘volunteer’  in the subject line stating your contact details and what you feel you could help with.

Similarly, we are also always in need of donations to keep the cinemas operating. If you can spare some money for a donation please contact us via email at film@ift.com or send a cheque to Ipswich Film Theatre Trust, Saracen’s House St Margaret’s Plain, Ipswich.

Most of all enjoy the films, tell your friends and thank you for your support.
