National Theatre Live – Travelling Light

National Theatre Live – Travelling Light

Screened in Cinema One on Thursday February 9 2012 at 7pm

(Please note the earlier start time)

The award-winning Antony Sher returns to the National Theatre to star in this new play by Nicholas Wright.

In a remote village in Eastern Europe, around 1900, the young Motl Mendl is entranced by the flickering silent images on his father’s cinematograph.

Forty years on, Motl – now a famed American film director – looks back on his early life and confronts the cost of fulfilling his dreams.

Following Vincent in Brixton, which played at The New Wolsey Theatre, and The Reporter, Nicholas Wright’s new play is a funny and fascinating tribute to major players in Hollywood’s golden age.

Following the live broadcast of Travelling Light on 9 February there will be a live Q&A session with director Nicholas Hytner, writer Nicholas Wright, and Jason Solomons, a prominent London film critic. We will be taking questions from the audience at the National Theatre, but would also love to hear from viewers in the cinema.
