Special Event: An Evening With The British Board of Film Classification

Presented by BBFC examiner John Wagland.
Running time 90 mins approx
Thursday May 12 at 7.30pm

For a cinema-goer, the British Board of Film Classification exercises a strong influence over what you can & can’t see on screen or DVD. With its decisions often a source of controversy (from video nasties to the recent complaints about Made In Dagenham’s ’15′ certificate), we’re delighted to welcome John Wagland to IFT.

An Examiner at the BBFC, he will be giving a presentation about his work there, looking at the history of the organisation, its legal remit, its commitment to the British public and decision making processes, illustrated using clips from current film and television.

This will be a  rare opportunity to question one of those whose decisions affect what we watch.

John has a love of film, having been an actor (and appeared in Michael Palin’s East of Ipswich)  but comes to the film classificiation business from the computer games industry so has an unique perspective.

There will be a chance to see clips and decide for yourself what rating you would give them and what did you see? Did your eyes deceive you? Did sound effects and clever editing convince you that you had seen something that never appeared on screen?

John passes on clever tricks of the trade which allow films to pack an emotional punch without actually going too far.

This will be a real must see event.

This event is open to all, however, please note that due to the nature of the material that will be screened, this event is for 18 year olds & over.
