Michael Winterbottom returns with another adaptation of Thomas Hardy, this time Tess of the d’Ubervilles relocated to modern-day India. The daughter of a rickshaw driver goes to work for the wealthy son of a hotel owner and the two fall in love, but this being Hardy we know tragedy cannot be far away. Vibrant and full of vivid colour, this is a fascinating take on a classic tale.
